Mobilising the equipment - SBP

Mobilisation with hydraulic power pack

  1. Calibrate the pressuremeter for

    1. Arm sensitivity – see Calibrating an arm - SBP.

    2. Pressure Cell sensitivity – see Calibrating the pressure cells - SBP.

    3. Membrane correction for stiffness and modulus – see Carrying out a membrane correction test - SBP.

    4. Membrane compression – see Carrying out a membrane compression test - SBP.

  2. Consider in addition whether the instrument should be checked for straightness (see Checking the instrument for straightness), for deformation behaviour and for lift-off characteristics – see Checking the Lift-Off performance of the arms.

  3. Use the full electronics and pneumatic system to carry out the calibrations in order that all parts of the system are checked.

  4. If the desiccators on the Strain Control Unit or Electronic Interface Unit show pink then dry them out.

  5. Ensure that the 12 volt batteries are in good order and are charged.

  6. Check that the gas bottle is full.

  7. Clean, grease, count and pack the RW rods and lengths of 2" casing – make sure that the RW rods are not blocked.

  8. Clean the Hydraulic Rams, grease the gate and bolts.

  9. Empty and clean the tool boxes and tools.

  10. Cutter Drive Unit:- Check for oil leaks, check the oil level, make sure that the clamping bolts are clean and oiled.

  11. Grease the Water Swivel and increase the clamping force on the packing material until attempting to rotate the swivel meets with a small amount of resistance.

  12. Hydraulic Power Pack – Check engine oil, fuel and hydraulic level in reservoir.

  13. Assemble the hydraulic system. Place the input and output of the water pump in a tank of water. Run the engine, water pump, rams and cutter drive unit. Check for leaks and that all controls are moving smoothly.

  14. Clean, dismantle and grease the Ball Foot Clamp.

  15. Pack the equipment, checking off items against the packing list. See Packing list for site - SBP.

Mobilisation when drilling under rotary rig

  1. Calibrate the pressuremeter for

  8. Empty and clean the tool boxes and tools.

  9. Clean, dismantle and grease the Ball Foot Clamp.

  10. Clean the Rotary Rig Adaptor hardware, and check the thrust bearing. Replace if necessary and pack with waterproof grease.

  11. Pack the equipment, checking off items against the packing list. See Packing list for site - SBP.
